What Scouter is

Scouter is a financial intelligence platform for self-directed investors and traders. It combines market data (prices, fundamentals, news) with AI analysis to help you:

  • Anticipate price moves around upcoming catalysts (earnings, product launches, regulatory decisions)
  • Track sector and theme sentiment
  • Screen stocks quantitatively (and with natural language on Premium)
  • Follow curated high-conviction trade setups
  • Manage a portfolio watchlist with catalyst calendars

Scouter is not a broker, financial advisor, or order execution platform. It provides research and planning tools only.

What markets and symbols are covered?

Asset typeCoverage
U.S. stocksCore product — Expected Moves, Shortlist, Lineup, Top Ideas
U.S. ETFsSupported in Expected Moves (holdings, sector exposure) and Shortlist; catalyst depth varies vs single stocks
ETFs & mutual funds (Shortlist)Screenable as a group; Premium AI can target “funds only” or “stocks only”
Crypto & commoditiesLimited Expected Moves support (price/volatility stats; not the full equity catalyst stack)
Non-U.S. listingsNot in scope today

Scouter covers all stocks on major U.S. exchanges, plus ETFs and mutual funds — 10,000+ tickers in total. If a ticker doesn’t resolve, it may be delisted, illiquid, or outside our universe.

Free-tier credits

  • 10 credits per rolling ~1-month period.
  • Charged when you fully load Expected Moves for a new ticker this period.
  • Same ticker in the same period does not use another credit.
  • Out of credits → lite view (past events, simplified schedule).
  • A credit on a ticker also unlocks catalyst details for that ticker on Lineup/Bench feeds this period.

Each feature has How to use and How it works. Click a section title to collapse or expand it.

Open Expected Moves or any quote page — same analysis UI. Quote pages are best for sharing (e.g. AAPL, NVDA).

Expected Moves — NVDA analysis
Expected Moves — NVDA analysis

How to use

Week grid — Open Expected Moves with no ticker. Mon–Fri cells show catalyst picks; click one for full analysis.

Single ticker — Search from the header or open a quote page. Review:

  • Chart — price, catalyst markers, bull/bear projection arrows
  • News — AI-summarized headlines
  • The Schedule — event cards with dates, probabilities, bull/bear targets, rationale
  • The Stats — fundamentals; click cards for peers, holders, earnings surprises

Use Lineup / Bench toggles to add the ticker to your roster.

Free users: credits badge in the header — one credit per new ticker per period.

Quote pages — Shareable links to the same analysis, plus week peers (other tickers with catalysts that week). Optimized for search and social previews.

How it works

Bull Target and Bear Floor frame the expected range around each catalyst using volatility, time to event, options data, and AI context.

Analysis is refreshed periodically per ticker, not rebuilt on every page view. Credits gate access, not whether research exists.

Open Trend Scores.

Trend Scores table
Trend Scores table

How to use

  1. Browse Clearance, Hype, Catalysts, and Total (0–30).
  2. Filter by trend, sector, industry, score bands; search Thesis.
  3. Starter+: click a row → detail modal with thesis, breakdowns, catalyst calendar, basket chart, Pure-Plays, link to Top Ideas.
  4. Free: scores visible; row click prompts upgrade.
  5. Logged out: Clearance/Hype/Catalysts columns require signup.

How it works

Each theme is scored on clearance, hype, and catalysts (0–10 each). Totals update as conditions change. Tags link to Shortlist and Top Ideas.

Open Starting Lineup.

Lineup vs Bench

Starting LineupBench
PurposePositions you own (or are sizing)Watchlist / research
SharesYes → portfolio value & %No
Portfolio chartYesNo
Catalyst feedLineup eventsBench events
PlanStarter or PremiumAll logged-in (Free: 10 slots)

Typical flow: research on Bench → buy or size → promote to Lineup with shares → exit but still watching → demote to Bench.

How to use

Bench — Add via search, Expected Moves, or Shortlist. Free: 10 slots max.

Lineup (Starter+) — Enter shares; portfolio value and allocation % update live.

Expected Moves & Breakdown — With Lineup holdings, click the Expected Moves & Breakdown button (chart icon next to the Lineup header). Opens a large modal with:

  • Combined portfolio price chart with upcoming catalyst markers
  • Sector/industry allocation breakdown (sunburst-style view)
  • Expected-move context for Lineup names

This is easy to miss — it’s the main portfolio visualization, not just a price line.

Catalyst feeds — Scroll below each table. Click an event to open the full breakdown (bull/bear targets, description, rationale) when your plan unlocks it.

How it works

Roster syncs to your account. Feeds use the same catalyst engine as Expected Moves. Full event detail on click: Starter+, or Free if you spent a credit on that ticker this period.

Open Shortlist.

Shortlist — Intelligent Search with results
Shortlist — Intelligent Search with results

How to use

Manual filters (Free & Starter) — Universe, valuation, fundamentals, dividends, momentum → Run screen (whistle button).

Intelligent Search (Premium) — Natural-language or voice, e.g. “Large cap tech with earnings next month.” Press Enter or Run screen.

Save searches to History. Add rows to Bench or Lineup.

What data Shortlist can pull

Shortlist screens a fundamentals database updated from market data. Depending on filters or AI intent, results can include:

CategoryExamples
IdentityTicker, company name, sector, industry
Size & liquidityMarket cap, average volume, index membership (S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, Russell 2000, etc.)
ValuationPrice, P/E, P/S, P/B, EV/EBITDA, PEG
ProfitabilityRevenue growth, net margin, ROE, debt/equity, free cash flow
DividendsYield, payout ratio
Momentum1Y price change, vs 52-week high, beta, RSI
CatalystsNext event date, event name, bull %, bull target (when query/filter includes catalysts)

Universe rules: By default, screens include common stocks plus ETFs and mutual funds. Premium AI can narrow to stocks only or funds only. Shortlist does not screen raw crypto symbols.

How it works

Manual filters are fast database queries. Intelligent Search uses a separate AI step to map your words to filters (including catalyst filters when relevant).

Open Top Ideas.

Top Ideas table
Top Ideas table

How to use

  1. Ranked table: stock, event, timeframe, sector, price/target/floor, Score (risk-adjusted return).
  2. Filter by sector and industry.
  3. Premium: click a row for bull/bear probabilities, analysis, drivers, targets.
  4. Non-Premium: Stock/Event blurred — Pricing to upgrade.

How it works

Curated highest-conviction setups from market-wide Expected Moves scans. Refreshed on weekdays.

Case Studies (track record)

Case Studies (homepage footer) publishes weekly retrospectives on how past Top Ideas performed — narrative write-ups with realized returns. Use it to see historical hit rates, not as live trade signals.

Browse Scouting Report.

Scouting Reports library
Scouting Reports library

How to use

  1. Index by sector or chronologically.
  2. Open unlocked articles; locked posts need Starter+ (some are free lead magnets).
  3. Long-form research with embedded charts — published on a schedule, not generated on demand.

“I used a credit but Lineup catalysts are still locked”

Free users only get full catalyst detail on Lineup/Bench for tickers where you spent a credit this period. Opening Expected Moves isn’t enough if the page didn’t finish loading or the ticker was already unlocked. Starter+ unlocks all roster catalysts.

“I clicked a catalyst in the feed and nothing useful appeared”

  • Free without credit on that ticker → upgrade prompt, not the full modal.
  • Logged out → sign-in prompt.
  • Full modal shows bull/bear targets, description, and rationale — same substance as Expected Moves event cards.

“Where is the portfolio breakdown?”

Only on Starting Lineup (not Bench). Add shares to Lineup holdings, then click Expected Moves & Breakdown beside the Lineup header — not the portfolio value number alone.

“Shortlist returned no rows”

Filters may be too tight, or the universe excludes funds/stocks you expected. Try resetting filters or a broader Premium query. New IPOs or thinly covered names may lack fundamentals.

“Expected Moves looks incomplete”

SituationWhat you see
Logged outPast events + preview
Free, out of creditsLite schedule, no targets
ETFHoldings/exposure stats; fewer equity catalysts
Crypto/commodityPrice/volatility; not full earnings-style catalysts
Delisted tickerHistorical “what happened” context

“Top Ideas is blurred”

Premium only for unblurred Stock/Event. Other columns may still preview.

“Trend Scores row won’t open”

Detail modal requires Starter+. Free sees scores but not the breakdown modal.

“I upgraded but still see Free”

Refresh the page or sign out/in. Clear dev tier override in browser localStorage if you use local dev tools (catalyst_dev_tier_override).

“Google sign-in failed in a script or unusual browser”

Use email + password on scouterai.com in a normal browser. Google often blocks automated browsers.
